Dopamine

A loyalty rewards app designed in two weeks, from a friend's wireframes to a full light-mode UI with animation prototypes.

Overview

Dopamine is a loyalty rewards app where users collect cards from participating stores, earn points on purchases, and redeem them for products. A friend who's a developer had the idea and the wireframes. He asked if I could take it from there, so I did.

Context

The wireframes covered the core flows. I used them as the base but went further — researching how existing loyalty and wallet apps handle settings, card management, and store discovery, then designing those screens from scratch since the wireframes didn't include them.

The first version was dark. That was my call, and I thought it suited the product name. They liked it but wanted light instead, so the dark screens stayed as explorations and I built everything in light mode. The onboarding went through a few options too — a handful of canned screens before we landed on the right direction.

My Role

  • Took wireframes and translated them into a full mobile UI

  • Identified gaps in the wireframes and designed additional screens for settings, card management, and store browsing

  • Explored a dark mode direction first before switching to a light UI at the team's request

  • Delivered a complete screen set plus animation prototypes for key interactions — pill transitions and card animations — to give developers a clear reference for motion

  • Turned it around in 1-2 weeks under a tight timeline
